The most talked about aspect of Alabama’s 2010 Football Schedule is the fact that the Crimson Tide will face six consecutive SEC opponents who have a bye week before the game. This is a huge disadvantage for Alabama.
If you are a betting man, it would be wise money to spend on Alabama losing at least two of these games. The Tide’s two toughest games last year, Tennesse and Auburn, both saw those two teams coming off of bye weeks. The fact is that an extra week of rest and gameplanning makes a big difference in the college game. Remember the first quarter versus Auburn? The Tigers came out with reverses and gadget plays and Alabama looked slow and tired. Luckily for them, Auburn ran out of gadget plays and the Tide played better from then on out. To expect Alabama to survive six straight SEC games this way is silly. It won’t happen.
Currently Alabama is in talks with the SEC to get some relief with their 2010 schedule. Mississippi State and South Carolina have been mentioned as teams that have the flexibility in their schedule to make a change. But these discussions have been going on for months and nothing has happened. It’s beginning to look as though no relief will come.
On March 24th, two months ago today, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive stated they are “making ever effort” to address the problem with Alabama’s 2010 schedule, but so far nothings has happened.
